You Are Simply Amazing

Happy Hump Day Peeps!

A quick post with my card for this week's Paper Players Challenge. LeAnne is our hostess with the monthly color challenge, and they are nice Spring group. I don't have the SU Summer Splash ink or card stock, so I've used another ink that looks to be close to that shade.

The die cut flowers and leaves are cut from white card stock and I used blending brushes and ink pads to color them. The Flirty Flamingo card base is stamped with the Swiss Dots background stamp using Flirty Flamingo ink, as is the center oval shape.  I'm a little sorry that I used the background stamp on the oval. I think I would have liked it better leaving it white with the stamped sentiment.

Here's the inside with another sentiment from the same stamp set.

Enjoy the rest of your week, and happy stamping!

Colleen

OCC Holiday 2022 Day 7 Cards

Hi and here's my Day 7 cards for the OCC Holiday Cards Workshop 2022.

Day 7 lesson is using embossing folders.

Details for card one. I die cut two sizes of circle dies in mylar to use as a stencil to ink blend several overlapping circles. Inks are several shades of greens, reds, and blues of Distress Oxide. After the panel dried, I ran it through an older SU Quatrefoil Tile embossing folder. The stamped and die cut images are from a recent Holiday stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. It's totally sweet! The images are colored with Copics.

Details for card 2. The large snowflake is a stencil from Gina K Designs. The inks are three shades of blue from Simon Says Stamp. When this panel dried, I ran it through the 3D Layered Snowflake embossing folder from Altenew. This is a very large image, so I cut it down to make an A2 size card.

Thanks,
Colleen

You Don't Look A Day Over Fabulous

 Happy Sunday peeps,

It's been a relaxing day of stamping and baking, more chocolate chip cookies. They are Yummy if I do say so myself.

Jaydee is our hostess for this week's clean and simple challenge at the The Paper Players. She has chosen a theme of One Layer Card. I was happy to comply with a pretty floral stamp from Altenew and some rainbow ink blending.

Starting with a top folding card base of SU Shimmery White card stock, I masked off the edges using 1/2 inch strips on both sides and the top and a one inch strip on the bottom, then ink blended a rainbow background using blending brushes.  Using my Misti stamping tool I stamped the large floral image using Gina K Amalgam black ink over the rainbow background. The sentiment was stamped after the masking paper strips were removed.

The inside is very CAS as well with just a Gina K Designs sentiment.

A super quick, one layer, CAS card, and kind'a cute too.

Hope your week ahead is a great one,
Colleen

Spring Card Camp 2022 - Day 2 Card

 Hi all,

I have one more post for this evening with a card that I made after watching the Day 2 instructions. Day 2 class techniques are the Joseph's Coat technique using stencils. Class instruction by Cathy Z., and Jessica Frost-Ballas. Cathy showed the traditional Joseph's Coat technique with a single stencil and Jessica stepped it up with layering stencils. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

For my traditional JC technique card, I used a new-ist SSS stencil called Fanfare. I think most crafters use stencils with larger open areas to blend the dark ink through, but I wanted to try this one with smaller lines. I really like the result and with the background ink colors, the panel has a very art deco look.  The colors are from this week's Sunday Stamps Challenge.

=

The skyscraper/city die is Cityscape B from Altenew. I cut it once from dark blue card stock and once from red card stock so I piece the blue into the red outlines. The Hello die is from Gina K Designs. I blended Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass ink on white card stock before cutting it to match the lighter blue in the blended background. I cut the word three times to stack for dimension and cut the shadow die from vellum. The strip sentiment is from the SSS Spring In My Step stamp set. It's stamped with GKD Red Velvet ink and cut out with a GKD Sentiment Strip die.

The blended inks on the background are Distress Oxide Candied Apple, Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch, Tumbled Glass and a very light application of Black Soot around the edges. After drying the blended inks with a heat tool, I placed the Fanfare stencil over and blended GKD Black Onyx with a blending brush. I really love how the background turned out.

Thanks, and enjoy your tomorrow!
Colleen

You Make My Heart Smile

 Hello,

I finished my card, or cards, for this week's Paper Players Challenge yesterday. I say cards, because a great sketch deserves more than one card and I made several using Jaydee's sketch. I'm posting two now, since they use the same papers.

For this first card, the main panel is made with an Altenew 3-D embossing folder. I don't own this one, but my sister does and when we were both visiting our mom during the summer, we each brought stamping supplies with us. She had a few of her Altenew embossing folders, so I just grabbed some card stock and made a bunch of panels. This is one of those. I cut it down to fit the sketch and then used white craft ink over the raised areas. The top piece I made yesterday with the Honey Bee Pineapple stencil and coordinating inks.

The sentiment is from one of my Altenew stamp sets. I cut it out with the oval dies in the GKD Master Layouts 1 die set, then trimmed it to fit on my card front. I used some SU black sequins cording across the line dividing the two panels, and also added some blackberry twine above that. To make the stamens, actually the anthers, stand out, I went over them with a white gel pen.

Here is the inside of this card. Sentiment is from a mini GKD set.

I didn't want the other pieces of the panels to go to waste, so I just reversed them for the second card and I like this one just as much.

The black postage stamp die is from another GKD Master Layouts die set and the embossed greeting is from a GKD mini stamp set. The black cording is again from Stampin' Up.

Here's the inside of this card.

I'm watching the Rafa semi-final match tonight as I write this. Hoping he keeps going. I also hope you all have a great Friday! Thanks for stopping by,

Colleen

Wishing You Love and Joy

Happy Monday,

I had a great holiday weekend, and I hope you did too.

After my friend left to drive home yesterday morning, I managed to get some cards made. This one uses this week's Freshly Made Sketches sketch.

I used a new to me 3-D embossing folder from Altenew to make the background. After embossing, I used a blending brush with some Gina K aqua ink to highlight the snowflakes. I also painted them with a Nuvo Aqua shimmer pen so they sparkle, but per usual, that doesn't show in the photo.

The center image is 3 snowflake dies from Gina K cut from 3 teal shades of card stock, also Gina K. The sentiment strips came in the November Gina K kit, and I cut them with her sentiment strip dies. Finally, I added some clear gems to the snowflake.

Mom and I are off to run some errands and do some grocery shopping. Most importantly, we are awaiting news that we have a new Great Grandson (for her) and a Great nephew (for me.) My niece in Oregon is at the birthing center in labor. We are super excited, and may be getting in the car for a trip later in the week to meet him.

Thanks for looking in today, and have a great week ahead!

Colleen

#Friends

 Hello and Happy Sunday,

I read this Jennifer McGuire post and watched the video a few evenings ago and decided to give it a try using some background stamps and stencils that I already have. I had a ton of fun, got very inky fingers and made about 6 backgrounds. Some turned out pretty well, others, not so much.

Here are two cards that I made using a couple of the backgrounds that I liked.

For the blue card, I used the Altenew Swiss dots background stamp and on the jungle card, the very old SU Leopard Print background stamp. The large polkadots are made using another very old SU stencil. I did use Distress inks as Jennifer recommended. I only have ink cubes, hence the inky fingers. Also, she recommends using the new domed sponge applicators and I only have the flat ones. After finishing the inking with the stencil on each, I used a large Altenew round blending brush to brush on some background color, this time using a couple of Gina K regular size dye ink pads.

In Jennifer's instructions, she shows that the technique can be done with either white craft ink or with VersaMark ink. On the blue card, the Swiss Dots stamp is stamped using Hero Unicorn craft ink. On the yellow card, the Leopard background stamp is stamped with VersaMark.

Here are each of the cards. The jungle card uses this week's Freshly Made Sketches layout. The bottom is made using a Taylored Expressions grass border die cut from SU black card stock. The images are from Lawn Fawn, colored with Copics and cut out with their dies. I heat embossed the sentiment.

On this second card, I used a large flower die. I cut it 3 times from white card stock and glued it to the center of the card. The sentiment is stamped with GKD Black Onyx, a few times to make it nice and dark, then heat embossed with 3 layers of clear EP. Using a N2 Copic, I shaded over the scored lines in the flower and used BV06 and Y04 Copics in the center of the flower. The sentiment and the butterfly images are from the SSS Beautiful Butterflies stamp set.

After playing with this technique, I decided to order some domed applicators and, of course, while I was on the SSS site, I ordered some of the newly released stamps and stencils. I couldn't resist! I'll try this again when my new goodies arrive, and I do have a few more backgrounds that I can use on cards from this first attempt.

Have an awesome Sunday! Thanks for looking in,

Colleen

Friends Like You

 Hi all,

How was your weekend. Relaxing, I hope. We spent part of the afternoon at Costco and bought a new TV for our living room. The one we had decided it had worked long enough and stopped this past week. As it was a pretty inexpensive one, and prices are even less for a pretty nice TV these days, we just decided to get an new one. No repair guy needed.

In addition to the costs being reasonable, the setup is amazingly fast with the new Smart TVs.

This morning was crafty time. It is Sunday and time for a new Paper Players Challenge. Ann is hostess with a Tic-tac-toe board. I love these!

I recently saw a Jennifer McGuire card on Instagram that I wanted to try. She calls them See Through Cards. She has a blog post here, although I haven't actually watched her video yet. I just saw the card she posted on IG and decided to give it a try. Not sure if I came close to her method, but mine worked pretty well, and I love the finished card. For the PP Tic-Tac-Toe challenge, I've used the diagonal upper right to lower left of patterned paper, embossing, die cut for my card.

Here is the card closed:

Here is the card standing so you can see the "open" format.

I scored the card base of heavy Gina K white card stock to make a top fold card. The front of the card is cut out using the Pink Fresh Studio Ornate Floral die. On the inside, I glued a piece of Whimsey Rainbow patterned paper to cover the entire inside panel. Using the Die-namics Stitched Oval dies, I cut two larger ovals and glued them back to back with the card front between them using liquid glue. The flower on the front is from the Altenew Engraved Flowers set. It is stamped using Gina K Amalgam ink and then heat embossed using VersaMark ink and clear embossing powder. This is done on another piece of the same Gina K card stock. After heat embossing, the flower is cut out using the corresponding set die and is popped up using Gina K foam squares. The sentiment, from the same stamp set, is heat embossed with white EP on black card stock. Finally, I added a few gold Pretty Pink Posh gems as embellishments. I love the black and white against the rainbow colors!

On the inside, I used a smaller oval from the same die set, making sure it is hidden by the front oval when the card is closed. The images are embossed using the same technique as on the front of the card.

Now, I will watch the video on Jennifer's blog to see if the technique is much different than mine. Regardless, these are pretty cards. Give it a try. I have other cover plate dies that would work well for this technique too, but I really like this very open PFS die.

Happy work week. Mine is looking rather light as a project that I was supposed to start on Monday has been postponed for another week.

Thanks for stopping by my blog,

Colleen

On Line Spring Card Camp Day 16 Cards

Happy Friday Peeps,

I'm slowly getting more cards made for the Spring Card Camp. I'm a little slow fitting them in with work, but boy have I been enjoying all of the techniques. Seems funny that after stamping as long as I've been, that there are techniques that I don't know, or at least better ways to do something I do know.

Today I have card examples for Day 16, taught by one of my coloring heros, Kathy Racoosin. The technique that she taught simply blew me away with the finished product, even mine, LOL. The class is to color a large image or images using Copic, or other alcohol markers, and get two cards in one by layering two panels together then coloring only the top one. The secret is the type of paper used on the top. Also, for the panel that is actually colored, you turn it over and use the "wrong" side to make the card.

I loved this process so much that I made 3 sets of cards. Two sets are stamped with Altenew stamp sets and the third is stamped with a Simon Says Stamp set. I followed Kathy's instructions and couldn't be happier. In fact, I think this is my favorite of the classes from the Camp.

Below is the first set that I made. The stamp set is the Altenew Wallpaper Art set. The images have a fair amount of black solid parts and for this technique, I colored over these areas with a black 110 marker. The other Copic colors are R56, R59 and R35 for the flowers and G29 for the leaves. For the background I used BV29 and then used a nubby towel with colorless blender to blot away some of the color and help promote the bleeding through to the second panel.

I'm posting this pair to this week's Color Throwdown Challenge.

Here is the set of cards made using the Altenew Spring Daisy stamp set.

And this set of cards is made using the Simon Says Stamp Sketched Flowers set.

I kind of had a hard time figuring how I wanted to add the sentiments and what to do for embellishments because I didn't want to cover anything up. I tried to keep it all simple.

I have 4 or 5 more classes that I haven't made cards for yet. I've watched all of the videos, and I'm thinking of what stamp sets I want to use.

Thanks to Kathy for teaching such a fun, and a very interesting process.
Thanks to you for looking in. Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank You

Hi all,

Yipee, it's Friday tomorrow. I'm definitely ready for the weekend.

In my earlier post this week, I said that I might make another card, because I really like Ann's color theme this week at the Paper Players Challenge. I was able to get another one made. Using very different shades of red and pink, and using a new to me flower set from Altenew, I made this.

I used some Altenew inks for the flowers and leaves. The darker shade is called Crimson and the light pink is called Blush. The background stamp is from Concord & 9th. It is stamped using Gina K Amalgam black ink. The flowers and leaves are cut out using the corresponding set dies. The sentiment is part of the Altenew flower set and it's heat embossed and cut out with an SU banner die.

Here is the inside, which uses a Gina K stamp for the sentiment and a small flower image from another Concord & 9th set.

The card bass is SU Poppy Parade which matches the Altenew Crimson in very well.

I hope you all have a great Friday and a very happy weekend. Thanks for looking,
Colleen

Hello Beautiful

Happy Sunday afternoon,

Well, late afternoon here on the west coast anyway. I hope you all had a nice weekend. I spent all day yesterday cleaning out an armoire in my bedroom that is used to hold "STUFF." I went to put more STUFF in it and decided some purging was in order. That is how I spent my Saturday. I'm happy to say, I have lots of free space in it now, and what's even nicer, I freed up two drawers that I can now store fabric in. I'm very happy about that part!

Anne Marie has a very vibrant color challenge this week at the Paper Players.  I recently received the latest Build-A-Flower set from Altenew, which has gorgeous images, and used it to make my card. A floral theme seemed best for these colors. I also used this week's Freshly Made Sketch for the layout.

Using the Misti I was able to get several shades of each of Anne Marie's colors by stamping multiple layers, and using the "stamping off" technique to achieve a lighter shades of color. To make the background, I used an Altenew stencil, a blending brush and Rich Razzelberry ink. The first step was to mask off the outer areas of the card. I blended more ink to make the darker shade over the larger dots and got lighter moving out to the smaller dots.

The second step was stamping the flowers and leaves using the set layering stamps, and then cut them out using the set dies. The neutral color is black, which I used to stamp the sentiment. It is cut out using a Simon Says Stamps label die. The flowers are added to the card by gluing the bottom of the image to the card base with liquid glue and using a dimensional under the top portion. I like using this kind of dimension on flower images.

Here is the inside of the card. This sentiment, as well as the front sentiment are included in the stamp set. The flowers are stamped again using a Misti. The darker flower with several layers of ink and the lighter one using the "stamp off" technique. Both stamped with Rich Razzelberry and Old Olive inks.

It's back to work tomorrow. Weekends just fly! I hope you have a great week and thanks for looking in.

Happy Birthday

Hello Peeps,

Happy Hump Day! I'm finished with holiday card making, I think. I haven't gotten them all in the mail yet, but I really think I'm done. I'm back to birthday card making and LeAnne's color challenge for the Paper Players provided some great inspiration.

Here is a pretty birthday card with big blue blooms.

I only used the two ink colors in the challenge. Using the Misti enabled me to obtain different shades of each. For the metallic part, the sentiment is heat embossed with gold EP, two layers to make it nice and smooth. I also added some gold sequins and splattered some gold ink mixed with water using a paint brush.

The stamp set is the Camellia layering set from Altenew. I used the outline stamp and Crumb Cake ink to make the background. On the middle flower, I used all three layering stamps. For the bottom and top flowers, just the outline and the accent stamps as I wanted the white highlights.

Thanks all,
Colleen

Let Your Heart Be Light

Happy Black Friday,

I am NOT a shopper and certainly not on Black Friday usually, but I am in Pacific Grove/Carmel-by-the-Sea (Monterey, CA area) for the Thanksgiving weekend with my bestie and my mom, so we are going into the village later today for lunch and a little shopping. It shouldn't be like hitting the large department stores or malls.

We've had great weather so far, but tomorrow the rain is supposed to start. I brought some coloring projects and we have Five Crowns to play and other games if it gets too windy and wet. Maybe we will do the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We've all been, but it's a place you can go again and again.

I made this card last Sunday for Joanne's sketch challenge at the Paper Players. I like the simplicity of the sketch and it certainly has tons of room for interpretation, but I kept to the sketch pretty closely.

The stamp set is by Altenew from a few years ago. It's one of their layering sets and super fun to play with. I went with traditional Christmas colors of green, red and gold.

Here's the inside of the card. Stamps here are from Concord & 9th.

Here's a little picture from the famous 17 Mile Drive I took yesterday. I believe these are Black Cormorant seabirds.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. Wishing you a nice and relaxing weekend. Thanks for looking in,
Colleen

Thank You For Your Kindness

Happy Thursday evening peeps,

It's been one of those weeks again. Tons of driving and long work days. I sat down Tuesday after dinner, fairly late actually, and tried to come up with something for this week's Paper Players Challenge. The awesomely creative Joanne is the hostess this week with a theme challenge of thankful. While looking through my sets, I came across this Altenew set and decided on it. I also wanted to use fall colors so that I could enter my card to this week's Sunday Stamps Color challenge.  I know that Camellias don't really grow in these colors, but I think these blooms turned out rather pretty.

Using the Misti, I stamped the three layers for each flower then cut them out with the corresponding die. Same for the leaves. The background is made using the SU Quilt Top EF, and the sentiment is cut out with the SU Stitched Rectangle dies.

In addition to the Paper Players and Sunday Stamps challenges, my card also works for the current tic-tac-toe challenge at Retro Rubber.  It fits the floral, embossing folder, die or punch diagonal. The stamp set is from 2017, I think.

Here's the inside of the card. The inside sentiment is from the same stamp set.

I'm thankful for only one more day of work for this week, and I get to stay in my home office to finish some reports. Then I'm on vacation for two weeks!  Our Mass friends are coming west and we are headed up to the Central California Coast wine country for 8 days. I. Can't. Wait!

Thanks for looking in,
Colleen

Keeping It WHEEL

Hi there and happy Friday peeps,

Hopefully you all have something fun or relaxing planned for the long weekend. We have been at our friend's house since last Saturday up on the Central California Coast wine country. It was a planned working/vacation. Since we really just need good WIFI to do most of our jobs, this worked out well.
We have some fun wine tastings planned for the weekend and tonight we will be in Cambria at our favorite sea food resturant.

I planned on some crafty supplies to bring since we were going to be gone for more than a week, and we made the journey by car, which makes it much easier to do.

The Freshly Made Sketches ladies are having a celebration to mark the 400th sketch. Here is my card for this week's sketch. I've used a Julie Ebersole set called Good Times paired with new SU Christmas DSP. These patterns are pretty versatile and can be used for non-holiday cards too.

Since I didn't have time last week to make a card for last week's 300th sketch, I made one this week. This set is is called Candlelight and is by Altenew. (These layering sets are so fun!) Again, I've paired the stamps with new SU Christmas DSP.

Wishing everyone a fun, restful and safe holiday weekend. Thanks for looking in,
Colleen
