Hi and Happy Friday all,
I signed up for for the Spring Card Camp 2, since the Spring Card Camp 1 was so fun. The first session was on Wednesday. Kristina started us off with a reverse masking technique using monograms. I've done reverse masking before, but not specifically with this idea.
Kristina did some ink blending inside a large monogram and then stamped some images. I did mine a little differently. A friend's baby is due later this month. They have already picked his name, Oliver, and I needed a card to mail his presents. I decided to use this technique for his card. Instead of doing the ink blending inside the letter, I stamped images of baby animals from several Lawn Fawn sets and colored them with Copics. After the stamping and coloring was completed, I took the outside mask off and put the letter mask over what I had colored and ink blended the background, then stamped over the blended area with a graphic stamp from LF. The card came out a little busy, but I think it's still okay.
The sentiment is from Concord and 9th. I also used some C&9th letter dies on the inside of the card to personalize the card even more.
This was a fun and different twist on reverse masking. Thanks Kristina for the inspiration.
Have a nice Friday afternoon all,
Colleen

Congratulations On the Birth Of Your Daughter
Good Morning,
It's a wet day here in San Diego, although the rain is very light. Really, it just makes for very slow traffic on the freeways. I'm currently sitting at a Starbucks overlooking the Interstate 5 freeway in the beach area and it's totally stopped. I have to make my way into an actual company office a little later this morning to restart my work computer after a major server migration. The restart can't be done via remote connection, which is how I work from my home office, so I'll be heading to the only company office in San Diego a little later. It's a completely separate division form the one I work for, but they have been very nice to let us use their connection. Otherwise, all of the San Diego employees would have had to drive to Los Angeles two days in a row.
Since I can't use my work computer or phone (yes, it effects that as well) I can sit and blog this morning. Today, I have a card for the Paper Players weekly challenge. It's Joanne's week to host and she has a Clean and Simple theme to make a baby card. Although I don't really need a baby card, it never hurts to have one in one's stash.
To make my card, I used some stamps from the new Lawn Fawn set called Fab Flowers. A few days ago, I posted another card using this same set but using another of the flowers included. It's not specifically a baby stamp set, but combined with the baby sentiment, I think it works pretty well.
To make this flower and butterfly wreath, I used a circle die to lightly trace a circle in the center of my card. Using the mini Misti, I stamped the flowers, butterflies and leaves in "girly" colors, placing them in just the right place for die cutting. After the stamping was completed, I cut the center out using the same circle die. Since this is a CAS challenge, I glued the panel to my card base so it resembles a single layer card. The sentiment is a very old wooden stamp and it has no company on it. I don't remember when or where I bought it. Since I used black for the butterfly's wing accents, I used black for the sentiment. (After the card was finished, I thought that gray might have been a better choice being softer for a baby card, but oh well.) Again since this is a CAS challenge, I kept lots of white space so for embellishments, I added a few sequin and rounded opposite corners. This was a fun card to stamp and to make and I like the way it turned out.
That's about all from me today. I need to hit the busy, stopped highway soon. Have a great day and thanks for looking in.
Colleen

Welcome Baby
Hello stamping friends,
It's a pretty Saturday morning here on the SoCal coast and I'm enjoying it. I had breakfast on the deck in the sunshine eating while reading a new fun book by Mary Kay Andrews called "The Weekenders." I love all of her books. A little romance, a little mystery all set somewhere in the Low Country.
I made this card Thursday evening. My co-worker is pregnant with her second child and they know that they are having a girl. I'm keeping with my current "stamp my own background" kick with this card, just like on my previous post.
I stamped the sweet little animal images in Memento tuxedo black and used sponge daubers to randomly add color, then cut a circle using a Spellbinders classic circle die to make the shaker part of the card. I stamped the sentiment and bear through the opening for perfect placement. The bear is colored with Copics and I added a liberal amount of Wink of Stella over his muzzle, ears and foot pads.
All in all, a fairly simple card. The longest part was cutting and placing the foam tape perfectly around the circle to hold in the sequin.
This afternoon, I'm working on my Paper Players card for tomorrow. We have a fun sketch challenge for you.
I hope you have a great Saturday, and thanks for looking in,
Colleen

Baby Cards
I have a good friend who e mailed me earlier this week and asked if could make her 5 baby cards. I never make baby cards, or at least haven't made one in, like, forever. Of course, I said yes. Any chance to do stamping is welcome. :) One of the recipients is having twin boys and she requested to have a card for each baby. I decided to use a similar theme and papers, but a totally different layout on each.
I pulled out my TE Beary Special stamp set to make the cards. I paper pieced the dog and the bear on each card. The paper is some retired SU DSP from last year.
