Thank You Card

Hello Peeps,

I hope you all had a relaxing and nice weekend. Here on the Southern California coast, we had rain, finally! It rained most all day on Saturday, off and on Sunday, and today it's wet and very windy.  It was a perfect weekend to stay in my craft room, which is exactly what I did.

I only made one card, however. I started an organization project that is going to go on for many days, mostly because it's kind of involved and also because I will work on it as time allows. My project is to un-mount all of my old SU wood-mounted stamps (and I have many, many sets going back to the mid-90s) and store them in Avery Elle clear sleeves, which is how I store all of my non-wood mounted sets.

Currently, all of my older wood mounted SU sets are in book cases in our garage. They are un-organized and I have a hard time finding particular sets when I decide to use one. So, I did some research on the web to see how other folks have accomplished this. Basically, heat the blocks for about 10 secs in a microwave, then peal off the stamp. This is working very well, and I've gotten through several sets so far.  Here are a couple of pictures of the wooden blocks with the stamps removed, from 152 SU stamp sets. I'm also trying to remove the plastic pictures from the blocks as well. The middle bag below I still need to do the labels. I will check with our local recycling company to see if they will take these blocks. Hopefully! I hate to have to put them in the garbage that will go to the landfills.

The one card that I made uses the sketch from the current Freshly Made Sketches Challenge and the colors from the current Color Hues Challenge. The colors are Navy and Cream.

I've used the SU stamp set and DSP suite called Boho Indigo, perfect for the Color Hues challenge colors, and I followed the sketch pretty literally. I used a blending brush to blend navy ink onto a piece of SU Very Vanilla card stock before cutting out the leaves with the corresponding set dies.

Here's the inside of the card. This sentiment is from the SU set called Happy Thoughts.

I have a few reports to write for work this morning, then I will continue on with my project.
I hope you all have a great week! Thanks for looking in,
Colleen

  1. I have done the same thing with my SU stamp sets because I've never gotten rid of a single set so they were overflowing. You'll love it when you are done - so much easier to store. I love your elegant card - beautiful in the blues! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

    1. KIM, I've not gotten rid of a single set either. I love them all! I just need to be able to use them all easily. Hence, the project. I may be 1/3 done by now. Thanks for your encouragement!

  2. Wow what a job you have tackled. Old wooden stamps are some of the best stamps I own. Good for you to take the time to do this. I am also in the middle of a huge undertaking. I am re packaging all of my stamps and dies in clear envelopes and labeling each one. I am about 1/2 done. What on earth was I thinking. LOL I can't wait to have it behind me. Now for your card, It is lovely! I adore that vase and the pretty papers. I bet you have come across some great stamps that you forgot all about. It's like Christmas all over again. Thanks for playing along with us at Color Hues and best of luck getting it all done.

  3. I have started doing this too! Actually, I have many unmounted sets that I am storing in slim SU cases (I buy them in bulk) but have many more that are still on wood...it is an arduous process, but very helpful to have them finally taking up less space! Now, your card is beautiful! I didn't get that Boho suite, but I LOVE the blue hues and this is just so pretty! Good job...I predict a winner!

    1. LeAnne, I'm using the Avery Elle clear envelopes. I thought about ordering the SU plastic DVD type holders, but decided the AE would take less storage room. In the end, I may transfer my SU non-wood mounted sets to the AE envelopes. It's questionable as of yet. Depends on my energy. A retirement project perhaps.

  4. I still have about 1/4 of the wooden stamps I started with, and frankly, I rarely pull them out. It's a huge job you've tackled, but it will be worth it in the end. I love your beautiful card---the way you've combined the patterned papers, and the gorgeous vase! Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!
