Let's Celebrate

Hi peeps,

It's a holiday Friday, Yay! I had a fairly long day at work yesterday, almost 10 hours, and so I'm really happy that I'm free to veg today.

A few days ago I made some 4th of July themed cards. I was playing around with an older Concord & 9th Turnabout set and after making a few backgrounds in other colors, I thought it would make a great red and blue background for 4th of July cards. One of the cards uses this week's Sunday Stamps Sketch Challenge for inspiration.


Here are the two cards together. These are bright and bold cards. The stamp set is a long retired SU set called July 4th.

Below are the insides of the cards. The greeting is Avery Elle, the fireworks stamp is from the same SU stamp set.

This first one uses the Sunday Stamps layout. If you haven't used one of the C&9th Turnabout sets, you use a square "jig" to hold the paper and stamp the image 4 times turning the jig 1/4 turn each time. To get the background colors in the order I wanted, I stamped red ink on turns 1 and 3 and the blue in on turns 2 and 4. The star stamps in the stamp set correspond to the SU medium star punch. I layered them with the medium Die-namics Star die. The flag banners are also Die-namics dies.

For the second card, I stamped the small star stamp from the set all over two narrow strips of white card stock with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with gold EP.  To make the folded circle element, I used my Scor Buddy to score at 1/4 inches down each strip, then folded each score line in the opposite direction. I did this with both strips of paper and glued the ends together with double sided tape, then formed it into the circle. I used a fair amount of liquid glue to hold the circle shape and glue it on the card. It's been a long time since I made one of these. I thought it fun for a July 4th card.

For the background, I used the same C&9th Turnabout stamp. I stamped with blue ink for turns 1 and 3 only. Then I moved the jig with the paper so that the image was in the middle of two blue rows, then stamped in the same manner with red. To me, the rows kind of look like crape paper streamers.

These were not quick cards to make, but super fun to make.

Let's Celebrate

I hope your Saturday has been relaxing. Mine certainly has. I've been playing in my craft room most of the day. I did some coloring using colored pencils on Kraft card stock and I've made two Fourth Of July cards.

Here is one of the Fourth Of July cards that I made. I've used this week's Freshly Made Sketch for my layout.

The stamp set is a very old Stampin' Up set called July 4th. I stamped the three fireworks stamps using two shades of blue and two shades of red randomly until most of the front of the card was covered. The star stamp is from this same set. I stamped two in the lighter shade of blue and punched them out using the SU medium star punch. These are layered onto slightly larger star dies cut from SU Poppy Parade paper. The sentiment strip stamp and the sentiment are from Avery Elle. I added several silver sequins and tiny clear rhinestones to the centers of the fireworks images.

The images for the inside are from the 4th of July Wreath set by Taylored Expressions.

I'll post more of the cards that I made today in the next few days.

Happy July 4th everyone!

It's a day for family and friends, having fun, and relaxing, and good eats! We are doing all of those things and wrapping up with a great view of the San Diego County Fair fireworks tonight.

For my 4th of July card, I started out with inspiration from two challenges. The layout comes from this week's CAS(E) this Sketch, and the colors come from the current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge. (I love the photo they have this week!)

All of the images are stamped in Distress inks. The background is made using the SU woodgrain background stamp and I've used many dies and a SU punch for the rest of the wreath elements.

Unfortunately, it's back to work tomorrow, but at least it will be a short work week.

Stars & Stripes for SSSC 161

It's a Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge Sunday. Yea! Karen's sketches are always so fun to do and this week's is no exception. I pulled out some brand new Taylored Expressions goodies to play with for today's card. I love all of the 4th of July themed stamps and accessories that Taylor released this month.

For my card, I started with this year's 4th of July Project Pantry kit. I stamped Moka Betsy on X-Press It Blending CS and colored her with Copics then fussy cut her out. (lots of small details to color on this stamp. Very fun!) She is popped up on the TE Frame It up -1 die that I stamped, then embossed, with the fireworks stamp from the Celebrate Freedom TE set. 

The Stars & Stripes stamp is stamped with SU Night of Navy ink and punched out with SU round punches. The stars & stripes heart is also part of the Moka Betsy set, stamped with Night of Navy ink and cut out. For the flags, I used the TE die Blimps & Banners.

It's all stitched up with navy blue thread and finished off with some silver SU star eyelets.
