Bee Awesome

Happy Saturday all,

I had a fun day stamping while catching up on laundry today. Since I've been out of the house working every day, my weekend seemed to be "normal." Although, no running errands out and about, but I got all of the laundry done, including the sheets.

One of the cards that I made today uses this week's CAS(E) this Sketch! What an interesting sketch this week and I had some fun with it. I pulled out some Honey Bee pattern papers and paired those with a Honey Bee stamp set to make my card.

I really like how my card turned out. Love these honeycomb patterned papers together. The images are all stamped onto SU Whisper White card stock, colored with Copics, and cut out with the corresponding set dies. The Bee Awesome sentiment is from a Simon Says Stamp set as is the inside sentiments. I also used the angled paper on one side of the inside.

Have an awesome Sunday and thanks for stopping by,
Colleen

Superheros in Scrubs

Hello crafty peeps,

I hope you are all staying well. Keeping your social distancing up and if you are staying in, you have plenty of activities to keep you busy. I am still working as my job is considered "essential." I help keep laboratory testing equipment operating so hospital and clinical labs can continue to perform patient testing. Every facility I go to I am put through a series of questions and my temperature is taken.

We have a family friend who is in an ICU unit with COVID-19. She is on a ventilator and has been since the weekend. She is starting to show signs of improvement and we are so thankful. I wanted to make a thank you card for her nursing staff and the docs taking care of her. I used this weeks Freshly Made Sketch  to make the card.

I've used the MFT sets called Super Hero in Scrubs and Doctor's Orders. They seemed quite appropriate. The images are stamped using Memento tuxedo black on X-Press It Blending card stock and colored with Copies, then cut out with the corresponding dies.

I used the MFT brick stencil for the circle background. The patterned papers are from a SSS monthly kit and are called Timeless Rose from Polkadoodler.

Here's the inside. The sentiment is from the Super Hero in Scrubs set. I used the MFT brick stencil again to make the background.

Have a happy Friday and thanks for looking in,
Colleen

Hello

Hi again,

This is my second post today. I have a card that I made last night using a brand new Paper Smooches set that I think is super fun. It's got that mid-century modern vibe, so right up mine and Mr. Personal Chef's alley. We have our living room and in-kitchen dining area decorated in the style.

The sketch comes from this week's Freshly Made Sketches.

The card base is a side folding note card of thick Whisper White card stock. I dry embossed the front with a We R Memory Keepers EF. The horizontal element is a piece of Rina K Electro-pop Neon Flock in Screamin' Green. So Fun!

The PS images are stamped on regular WW card stock using Memento tuxedo black and colored with Copics using colors appropriate for the mid-century modern design. I fussy cut them out and used Dimensionals to pop them up per the sketch. The sentiment is part of the set and it's stamped using Rina K Electro-pop Screamin' Green ink and cut out with a small oval die. I added three little candy dots for embellishment.

On the inside I've used the other two images from the PS stamp set. The sentiment here is from Gina K. and fits the theme of the card perfectly.

I cut a very small strip of the flock paper to use as a base for the pot and plant. I angled the sofa slightly and free hand drew in the wood floor.

I really love how this card turned out.

Thanks for looking in, and again, everyone stay safe and well!
Colleen

Life Is Like A Cup Of Tea

Hi all,

A  fitting sentiment for our lives right now.

I thought I'd play along with the CASology TEA challenge today. I so struggle with CAS cards, but I'm pushing myself to make them periodically. Having a sketch that leads you there really helps too, so for this card I used the current CAS(E) this Sketch! layout. The stamp set is an older Lawn Fawn, but the inks are brand new Rina K Design inks called Electro-pop and, boy-o-boy, are they BRIGHT.

This is a one layer side folding note card. Using the Misti I stamped the tea cup 5 times in a row using various shades of the Rina K inks. The little tea bag was a perfect fit at the end of the row. I added the little smiley face and steam to the 2nd cup, per the sketch and the sentiment, from SSS, underneath. I taped off part of the sentiment and inked up just the top line because that was all I wanted on the front of the card. The rest is here on the inside.

I'm pretty pleased with the CASness inside and out this time.

Have a good Friday and be safe!
Colleen

Enjoy this Day

Good morning to all,

After we finished dinner last evening, I sat down to make a card for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch! challenge. I had in my mind to use bees for the three little elements and went looking through my sets to find something appropriate. I ended up combining two sets, one from Paper Smooches and one from Honey Bee. I paired the bees and butterfly images with some older flowery DSP from SU to make this rather cheerful card.

The insects are stamped with Memento tuxedo black ink and colored with Copic Markers. The largest bee was stamped on a scrap piece of card stock and fussy cut out to pop up over the edge of the patterned papers. I added some Wink of Stella to the wings and three little enamel flowers for embellishments.

On the inside of the card I used the bug image from the Paper Smooches set and the inside sentiment is from Concord & 9th.

I had another piece of the DSP left over so I made another card with the strip of DSP down the side. In this case, I cut the length down to make a square 4.25 x 4.25" card. The stamp image and sentiment are from the C&9th set called Forever Flower, one of their newer sets. The big flower is stamped using Hero Arts purple ink. The sentiment is heat embossed with white EP and I've added gold twine and gold sequins for embellishments.

And the inside of this card. The sentiment and heart image are from the same C&9th set.

As far as work today, I did go to visit one of my labs here in San Diego this morning, but came home as soon as I was finished with their requested task. The highways are very light with traffic. I guess with no schools and many folks working from home it's to be expected, but even knowing this, kind of surprising.

Have a great Tuesday evening, and thanks for looking,
Colleen

a little note

Hi peeps,

I hope you are all well and coping with the new guidelines for living. Like many, I'm working from home, for the most part. Because my job is customer service for hospital laboratories, there may be a few required visits to help. But for today, I worked from home. I caught up on several training modules that I've been neglecting due to travel.

I finished early afternoon so I sat down and made a few cards. Thank goodness I have a hobby that makes staying home bearable.

Joanne has a Clean and Simple theme challenge this week at the Paper Players called Spring Flowers.  I'm guessing none of us had a problem finding stamps for this theme. I pulled out a very pretty SU stamp set called Soft Spring to make my card.

I started with a side folding card base of Thick Whisper White card stock and using a blending brush lightly blended Soft Sky in in the middle. I then stamped the image with SU Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and used purple Zig Real Brush markers for the flowers. To make the frame, I used two of the SU Stitched Rectangle dies and used liquid glue to glue it around the flower. The sentiment is from the SU Butterfly Gala set and it's stamped using VersaMark on black card stock and heat embossed with white EP. It is popped up using mini-dimensional. Just a few SU clear enamel dots make up the embellishments.

Another image from the Soft Spring set is on the inside and the sentiment is from a C&9th set.

Stay safe and well all and thanks for looking in,
Colleen

Thinking Of You

Hello crafty peeps,

I finally had an afternoon to play in my craft room yesterday. I've been traveling for work the past two weeks  and staying out in the Riverside area. While it's only a two hour drive, depending on traffic, I choose to stay close to the hospital where I was working instead of commuting back and forth from home. (Who wants to be on the Southern CA freeways 4 hours a day? Not I, LOL.)

I used one of the newer C&9th Turnabout stamp sets to play with, and made two cards using the stamped panel that I made. I paired it with another C&9th set that coordinates well with the Turnabout to complete both cards.

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch for the layout on this first card.

The card base is Thick Whisper White, which does a great job showing off the stitched die from the C&9th set called Stitched Blossoms set. I used the die twice, once right side up and then turned it upside down so that the stitched images would show above and below the stamped panel. Thinking of you is stamped with Calypso Coral using my Misti to get a nice smooth and dark ink application. It's cut out using the corresponding set die then popped up using Diemsionals. The other sentiment is heat embossed using white EP. This sentiment is in the C&9th Sew Pretty set.

I made the second card using the same papers, inks and stamp sets. This doesn't follow a challenge or sketch. I just wanted to use the rest of the stamped panel.

I trimmed a piece of Calypso card stock to 5.25 x 4 inches and used the same stitched die towards the bottom and glued the stamped panel over it. I popped that panel up using fun foam on a card base of Calypso Coral that is side folded. Before gluing it I found the green polkadot ribbon in my stash of ribbons and tied it were the stamped panel ends. I so rarely use ribbon any more and I have a ton of it. This time, the thinking of you stamp is heat embossed using white EP.

I'm planning on more stamping time today. It's still wet and rainy here in SoCal, so perfect weather for stamping.

Have a great day everyone,
Colleen

Turnabout Stamping Fun

Hello peeps,

Ack, it's Sunday evening. Another weekend done which means another work week starting. I'm starting a project tomorrow that takes me away from home. Hotel life for the next couple of weeks. Not my favorite. I will be back home on Friday evening, but away again the following week.

Since I will be away, I wanted to get cards made to submit to a couple of challenges. I rarely post for two challenge in the same blog post, but that's what I'm doing here.

First up is a card that I made for the current Freshly Made Sketches Challenge.

The background is made using the Concord & 9th Butterfly Love Turnabout Stamp set. The banner element is dry embossed with the SU Country Floral Dynamic Embossing Folder and the wooden butterflies are SU Butterfly Elements. Once the background panel was completed, I cut it out with the largest Die-namics Wonky Stitched Rectangle die and glued it to a Purple Posy card base.

The second card is for this week's Paper Players Challenge where Anne Marie has a Heat Embossing theme this week.

For this card, I used most of the same inks as on the first card. The stamp set is the Blooms Turnabout set by Concord & 9th. Once the background was dry, I heat embossed the sentiment using both Memento tuxedo black then VersaMark ink and clear EP. The hexagon and flower elements are from the C&9th Modern Frame stamp and die set and they are cut from SU coordinating card stocks. This one is embellished with SU Purple Posy faceted enamel dots.

My Shingles have gotten much, much better. Not quite as sore and the rash is starting to go away. I slept much better last night than I have in the past two weeks. Guess I'm on the mend!

Thanks for looking, and have a super nice week!
Colleen
